Research and development thriving in South Wales for Excelerate Technology

Five years of research and development, an upheaval across the Severn Bridge via funding from Finance Wales and the Wales Assembly Government, unparalleled recognition within its key market sectors and the ability to listen, learn and deliver for its customers has seen Excelerate Technology grow from a company merely supplying transportable satellite broadband VPN solutions to an all-encompassing communications pioneer.

David Savage, Chairman and CEO for Excelerate explains the speed of the journey so far. Savage said: “It is the combination of the imagination of our customers and Excelerate that determines our future and our joint abilities. The quality of what we do and how we deliver it is only as good as the quality of the idea.”

The fact is, we would be lost in today’s business environment without many of the core technologies that we take for granted, which only a few years back were still a seed in somebody’s imagination.

By working closely with its markets and clients, namely the Emergency Services, Homeland Security, Military, Health and Education, Excelerate has introduced concepts and solutions that the competition, one might say lags substantially behind in. Not just in technology but in the way it is provided and managed.

The company has invested more than £1.25 million in the past eighteen months in people, processes and infrastructure. This is so it can enhance its ability to be a “one stop shop” to its customers for the provision of end-to-end complex technical solutions that embraces satellite, wireless and GSM in the transmission of the widest possible applications in data, video and voice, and, so that it can control more of its own destiny concerning the delivery of quality. Not just of its products and solutions but in the delivery of the networks that support these technologies.

Excelerate now ensures that its customers are able to run all of their applications for data, voice and video over satellite, and that they also have the managed bandwidth to do so. Excelerate operates and manages its own private Satellite Broadband, GSM, VOIP and Telecommunications and Wireless Networks and all are run from its own Network Operations Centre at its two-acre facility near Cardiff.

A few years back, Excelerate entered the market with Transportable Satellite Broadband VPN (TSBV) which enabled its clients, which at the time was predominantly the Emergency Services, the ability to stay connected and in touch with HQ servers – it was fast, secure and inexpensive.

Savage continued: “The visible change in our business is enormous and is reflected in our growth rate and the names of the clients we serve, are winning and support, a who’s who of Government and Emergency Services. The business is highly specialized, so much so that we have seen the need to create specific divisions to give it more focus and accountability."

Excelerate has also begun the process of in-house manufacturing and assembly where it will achieve better value, better quality and faster delivery for its customers with particular emphasis on its rapid growth surveillance products division encompassing volume products such as body worn and rapid deployment camera solutions, right up to high end COFDM Thermal Imaging CCTV solutions. The attitude is very much one of ‘if our customers want it and it doesn’t yet exist, if it makes sense we develop it and make it.’
Savage continued: “We have come a long way but this is still only the beginning. A lot of the available market is still, as yet, to wake up to the advantages and benefits we can bring it.
“However, given the Government focus on increased effectiveness in dealing with terrorism, crime and natural disasters with better resilience, interoperability and continuity, we believe we will see a consistent increase in our momentum; provided we continue to listen to our customers, deliver what they need and stay ahead of the competition”
